January 27, 2006, Newsletter Issue #1: Cold Exposed Air Intake System

Tip of the Week

With your exposed cold air Airaid intake system airflow entering the filter is not restricted, and you get optimum amount of air to the engine. The good news is that the engine is going to breathe more efficiently; the bad news is that all sorts of stuff you don’t want can get into and enter the engine. Sort of an open borders type system, you might say. Not only is water and debris more likely to be drawn into the filter, but the air being drawn in is hot. This is not good. Makes it harder for the engine to breathe. Manufacturers have developed systems and heat shields to reduce the heat, but there is only so much they can do. Running engines, by their nature, produce heat. The enclosed or boxed systems do a better job in this regard.
